Reliability in ESSEL’s towing and recovery systems
The Slovak brand ESSEL is proof that high-quality engineering with global potential can be created right here in Slovakia. In an interview with Ing. Martin Šurko, CEO of the brand, you’ll discover what motivated the company to join the "Made in Slovakia" project, how it is steadily building its product portfolio, responding to customer needs, and driving innovation with a focus on sustainability.
What do you think about the "Made in Slovakia" project, and why did you decide to support it?
I believe there are many smart and talented people living in Slovakia. The ESSEL brand is proof that when given the opportunity, these individuals can develop and produce top-quality engineering products that are exported all over the world. The "Made in Slovakia" project highlights such companies, so when we were approached to participate, I didn't hesitate for a moment. I am glad that through this project, we can bring people in Slovakia closer to what we produce and show them how beautiful and premium engineering products are made here, from the sheet metal plate to the final screw on the assembly.
How was the idea of ESSEL born, and what was its initial inspiration?
ESSEL's history goes back more than a century, although it hasn't always been easy for the brand. We joined the company ten years ago when it was almost bankrupt, and we've been building the brand gradually ever since. We entered with the vision of bringing our own product to the market, truly "Made in Slovakia," which we could export and find customers for all over Europe. This was our initial vision and idea, which we have been working to fulfil through honest work, year after year.
Can you tell us more about your new product development process and how you incorporate customer feedback?
We have an in-house design team, so our products, including the one you see behind me, the train ship within the recovery vehicle segment with the model designation T-REX, are developed entirely within our design department. From the sheet metal to the last bolt, we manufacture everything in our production facilities in Slovenská Ľupča. Our development process is continuous and often driven by the requirements and needs of our customers. We listen to them very carefully and meet with them regularly, whether at exhibitions or during visits to our facilities. We always strive to incorporate their feedback into our development to ensure that we meet their needs with the equipment we develop and manufacture.
How is your company dealing with the challenges of sustainability and environmental responsibility?
Sustainability and environmental responsibility are very important topics today, and we take them seriously. For example, the T-REX behind me weighs less than thirty tonnes, and 95% of its weight is 100% recyclable. This machine is a testament to our commitment to environmental responsibility.
What are your future plans for innovation and product portfolio development?
Innovation is a continuous process and stopping it would essentially be the beginning of the end. We are very aware of this. It is a constant process that reflects market demands, and we always strive to introduce innovative solutions. We have brought many new solutions to the market, setting trends in our industry. Innovation drives us and is key for any company developing its own products.
