140 years of quality and innovation

Chemolak is one of the long-standing pillars of Slovak industry and has been proving for more than a century that honest craftsmanship, in-house know-how, and a strong focus on quality still have a firm place in the modern world. In the interview, the company talks about its support for the Made in Slovakia project, what sets it apart on both domestic and international markets, and how it responds to changing customer needs.

What do you think of the Made in Slovakia project, and why did you decide to support it?

Chemolak has long believed that supporting Slovak-made products is important and necessary, not least because it brings stability, quality, and new jobs. As for Made in Slovakia, we support the project because we see shared goals and similar trends—namely, a focus on local production, honest craftsmanship, and long-term reliability.

Chemolak is considered a traditional Slovak brand. What, in your view, sets the company apart on both the domestic and international markets?

First and foremost, it’s our tradition, know-how, and more than a century of history. Chemolak is also the only Slovak manufacturer that produces its own resin, which means we can directly control quality. We have certified processes, modern development, and R&D, which enables us to guarantee the quality and sustainability our customers value.

Which specific products or brands form the core of Chemolak’s portfolio today? Which ones are you most proud of?

I would divide it into two segments. One is the hobby segment, and the other is professional—more industrial, really. In the hobby segment, we have brands such as Chemolux, used as a wood stain/glaze. Then there is Syntetika, a topcoat-and-primer system primarily intended for metal—these are our typical hobby products. For interior and exterior wall paints, we offer, for example, Albapura, Decorhit, and Farmal. In the industrial range, products such as Chemopur or Vagona are designed for metal structures and for use in corrosive environments as well.

What is your current export reach? Where can people find Slovak paints from Chemolak?

Our Chemolak paints are available in at least 10 European countries. We also ship outside the EU, but within Europe our key markets include Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Spain. In Slovakia, our main channels include contracted customers, our U maliara retail network, as well as international retail chains.

How do you see customer expectations changing? How does Chemolak respond in terms of marketing, packaging, and brand communication?

When it comes to customers, we’re hearing—also from Western markets—that people want paints that feel straightforward: easy to apply and, frankly, as “foolproof” as possible. This trend is coming mainly from Western countries and reflects the needs of modern consumers, especially younger ones. Our development team is focused on these trends as well, and we’re actively working to meet these expectations as quickly as possible. In marketing and communication, we’re strengthening our digital channels—both social media and digital catalogues. At the same time, we’re updating our packaging design to make it more modern and easier for consumers to navigate.
